A young woman with long wavy hair wearing a black blazer and striped top, standing in front of a plain light background.Emma Robertson chose UCF for its highly specialized forensic science program and the unique resources that support students pursuing this rigorous field. She was also drawn to UCF’s vibrant student life and the diverse opportunities available for engagement both inside and outside the classroom.

After completing most of high school online while managing multiple part‑time jobs, Emma wanted a strong support system as she transitioned into college. That is exactly what EXCEL provided – academic structure, focus on time‑management skills, and built‑in mentorship opportunities. Beginning as a GEMS mentee and later serving as a mentor, Emma developed confidence in her academic path and found fulfillment in helping new students adjust to university life.

After completing her first year in EXCEL, Emma began exploring new experiences that broadened her academic and professional horizons. She studied abroad in Mallorca, Spain, where she shadowed medical professionals and earned the Certificate of Excellence for her participation. Through the EXCEL URE and GEMS, she connected with Dr. Erin Hanson, which led her to join Dr. Hanson’s research lab and later intern at UCF’s National Center for Forensic Science. She also also presented her work at the Student Scholar Symposium during Research Week, strengthening her skills as a developing researcher and presenter.

Emma will continue her academic journey by returning to UCF to pursue a Master’s in Forensic Science, building on the growth, experience, and community she found through EXCEL.
