My name is Ximena Martinez, I am a 2nd year Biotechnology major. I graduated from John A. Ferguson in Miami, Florida. My favorite class I have taken at UCF has been Statistics, I really enjoyed this class as it was where I first learned that math could be enjoyable, with my friends and the amazing professor I really had a great time in this class. My favorite professor has been Abayneh Lemma Gurmu for chemistry, this professor has been amazing at explaining and his course is set up extremely easy. I decided to become a mentor after the great experience I had as a mentee, being part of the GEMS group helped me realized that I’m not alone as even in a class with 400 other students I can recognize the friendly faces of my fellow mentees, and it made walking into class so much easier. Being in GEMS is being part of a community that welcomes everyone with open arms, which is amazing to have in a new environment. A few of the things I love to do are going to Disney, reading, and creating fun get-togethers for my friends.
