Profile
Hello! My name is Visari Martinez and I’m a second-year Biology major on the Pre-Professional track. Originally from Miami Lakes, I graduated from Miami Lakes Educational Center (MLEC), where my passion for dentistry began. At UCF, one of my favorite classes has been Biology, taught by Professor Michele Yeargain. Her paced lectures and understanding of students have greatly deepened my appreciation for the subject and solidified my decision to pursue a career with a foundation in the biological sciences. I am actively involved in both the EXCEL and GEMS programs at UCF. I chose to get involved with the GEMS program because I believe in the power of mentorship and needed it as a first year who was new to college. As a current mentee, I’ve benefited from the guidance of mentors who have helped me navigate the challenges of my first year. Looking ahead to becoming a mentor in the fall, I aim to provide the same support and encouragement to incoming students, helping them transition smoothly into university life and their STEM majors. For incoming students, my advice is to actively seek out resources and communities that align with your academic and personal interests. Remember, building a strong foundation in your first year is crucial for long-term success. Outside of academics, I enjoy reading books, drawing, hanging out with my friends or partner, and hiking.
