Hello! My name is Selah Pearl, and I’m a second year Aerospace Engineering student. I was homeschooled throughout my entire life in Eustis, Florida. My favorite classes vary widely between mathematics, physics, and English. I love writing, but the challenge and satisfaction that comes with working through higher-level calculus is like nothing else. My favorite professor has been Matthew Kyle, who was my calculus three professor. His ability to smoothly and concisely move through concepts makes learning and following along so easy. I decided to get involved with the GEMS programs due to the opportunity and support I felt they could provide me, both socially and academically. Some words of wisdom would be to reach out! To people in your classes, to professors, to opportunities, to scholarships and outreach events and to success! I met some of my dearest friends and reached some of my most fruitful opportunities solely through a ‘why not’ mentality. What’s the worst that could happen from complimenting someone’s shirt at the gym? I did and made an incredibly dear friend. What’s the worst that could happen from talking to your professors? One small positive decision can change your whole semester for the better in countless ways. Consistent small positive decisions can build you a beautiful future. Outside of school, I love to run, weightlift, and play guitar.
