Hello! My name is Meghan Kolb, and this will be my third year as a Mechanical Engineering student. I graduated from East Lake High School Academy of Engineering in Tarpon Springs, Florida. I love going to the beach, playing soccer, and baking! Although challenging, one of my favorite classes at UCF has been Calculus 2 because I had an amazing professor. I find that being successful at something difficult is really rewarding, and having a great professor to support you is important. Ms. Jessica Girard created a comfortable class environment that helped facilitate asking questions. I decided to get involved with the GEMS program because I want to help students feel more confident in engineering. I wrestled with feelings of self-doubt my first year because I didn’t feel like I had anyone who could relate to my struggles. I hope to be someone’s support during those difficult times and to help foster plenty of friendships! Some of the best advice I received was that all you can do is continue to try your best and what is meant to be, will be. This has greatly helped me manage my stress levels and mental health while pursuing a difficult major, and I believe that is important for everyone.
