Profile

My name is Lannika Johnson and I am a sophomore majoring in Chemistry with a Biochemistry track, and I am also minoring in Biomedical Sciences and English Linguistics. I graduated in 2018 from Flanagan High School in Broward County, FL. My favorite class so far has been Biology, mainly because it allowed to apply the things I was learning from Chemistry and view it from a broader perspective. My favorite professor so far is Professor Patino because you can tell he genuinely cares about students doing well and understanding the material. Also, he has a very interesting sense of humor that prevents his lectures from being monotonous. The main reason I joined GEMS was so I could have a support system of fellow female STEM majors that could relate to my experiences and guide me along the way. My amazing mentor and fellow mentees inspired me to become involved with the GEMS program this year. One piece of advice I have is to never be afraid! Be open to meeting new people and trying new things, and most importantly, don’t be afraid to fail. College is for learning new things about yourself and the world so don’t be worried, everything will always turn out okay. When I have free time I like to visit amusement parks and discover new things in Orlando with my friends.
