Profile

My name is Krizia Santiago and I am a Sophomore majoring in Computer Science. I graduated from Cypress Creek High School in Orlando, Florida. Fun Fact: I am a Diploma recipient of the International Baccalaureate Program. One of my favorite classes that I have taken so far would have to be Intro to C Programming with Professor Lobo. The course was my big introduction to my major and programming. It was a ton of fun learning how to code but it was also a challenge because it was so unlike any of the classes I've taken in high school. Professor Lobo will probably always be one of my favorite professors. He can be a little intimidating, but once you get past that you'll see that he really does care about his students not only doing well in the class but also ensuring that we actually understand the material which is why he hosts multiple study sessions before any of his exams. I highly recommend him when choosing a professor for Intro to C. I chose to become a GEMS mentor because I noticed that there was not a Computer Science mentor for GEMS in my first year of college and I felt that I have some experience in the major as well as opportunities to get involved on campus the first year of college. I also just really want to make the transition from high school to college easier as well as provide a sort of support group for other young women in STEM majors. The first year of college can be exciting and stressful at the same time, it may even be a little lonesome for a few but luckily EXCEL gives you a sense of community, a place where you'll always be welcome, and a sort of support group filled with like‐minded people. Outside of school, I enjoy working out, cooking, going out with my friends, and I am part of the Residence Hall Association here at UCF!
