Hi! My name is Kamille Hayes. I am a sophomore majoring in Pre-Health Biology, and I am also in the Burnett Honors College here at UCF. I’m from Melbourne, Florida, and I graduated from Heritage High School. My favorite class at UCF so far was Honors Fundamentals of Oral Communication with Dr. Christine Hanlon. She was the sweetest, most caring professor, and she helped me to be way more comfortable with public speaking. I became a GEMS mentor because my mentor helped me so much with finding resources, getting involved on campus, and adjusting to college in general, and that made me super excited to do the same for my mentees as well. I definitely struggled with figuring everything out at first, but my mentor showed me that there are so many resources to take advantage of and so many people who are willing to help, so don’t be afraid to ask! Outside of school, I work part-time as a barista at a café, and in my free time, I love going to the beach, working out, painting, and going out with friends. My advice for freshmen is to definitely get involved as much as possible! It’s an amazing opportunity to make new friends and meet people with similar interests as well, and while you’re off at college, you might as well make the most out of this experience!
