Profile

My name is Jennifer Ulrich and I am a senior majoring in Industrial Engineering at UCF. I graduated from Stanton College Preparatory High School in Jacksonville, Fl. The Industrial Engineering program at UCF is amazing and filled with awesome teachers and interesting classes. If I had to pick a favorite class it would have to be Human Engineering, which takes into account human factors when designing or improving a process. I have had so many amazing teachers but one that really sticks out is Doctor Thompson. He is also the Undergraduate Coordinator for the department and always has his door open for students. I have spent many hours in his office for various reasons and he has always been helpful. Being involved on campus is an important part of college life and I am involved in multiple clubs at UCF. Some of my favorites are the Society of Women Engineers, Institute of Industrial Engineers, and the Chi Omega sorority. I have also been given the privilege of joining a number of the honor societies at UCF. My favorites have been the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, Tau Beta Pi engineering honor society and Alpha Pi Mu industrial engineering honor society. I joined GEMS because starting college can be stressful and it's comforting for freshmen to know that there is someone looking out for you. STEM majors are very challenging but I have found engineering to be VERY rewarding. I hope to share with my GEM mentees my love for learning and build a support system so that they can achieve any and all goals they have. Outside of the classroom I love going to the beach; it's the best way to relax and work on a tan!! I'm a rollercoaster junkie and love to go to all the amusement parks in Orlando. I also love to travel and that picture of me was taken in Jonkoping, Sweden where I traveled abroad during the Fall 2010 semester. Words of Advice for GEMS freshman students: The best advice I can give is to be prepared to work hard but balance your college experience with extracurricular activities.
