Profile

Hanna Reed is an Instructor of Mathematics. After receiving her BS in Mathematics from the University of Central Florida, Hanna became a mathematics teacher for Volusia County. She then earned a Master’s Degree in Mathematics from the University of Central Florida in 2021 and shortly thereafter became a Mathematics Instructor for Bethune-Cookman University, where she worked closely with faculty to increase student success and retention.

Hanna has experience in teaching courses ranging from remedial mathematics to differential equations and her philosophy for student education remains consistent – get students involved in the learning community. Students gain valuable experience when they interact with their peers and faculty through academic discussions. This is where students can not only learn topics (a necessity for succeeding in a course), but develop their professional communication skills (a necessity for succeeding in your professional life). Hanna wants to encourage students to be inquisitive learners who are not intimidated by the process. Students should expect to make mistakes and have confusion while they are actively learning a concept (otherwise, it would not be learning, would it?). This should be normalized. Some of the most useful conversations in the classroom are those about a mistake and Hanna hopes to have many such conversations.

During her undergrad at UCF, Hanna was an EXCEL student and has first-hand experience with the impact of the program. She was given better opportunity to form close academic relationships with her peers, TAs, and faculty – many of which have survived to this day. While in graduate school, Hanna was a TA for the EXCEL program and was able to gain valuable insight from working alongside UCF EXCEL faculty and staff. Her passion is building students’ confidence in mathematics and developing their skills as young professionals.
