Hi my name is Ellie Wells and my major is Mechanical Engineering. This is my second year here at UCF. I graduated from Port Charlotte High School in Port Charlotte Florida. I would have to say that my favorite class was Intro to Engineering because we had the opportunity to build and program our very own robots. I really liked almost all of my professors, but my favorite would have to have been Dr. Nevai because he pushed us to our full potential in Calculus 1 and 2. He made an effort to make sure everyone understood the material. He was a difficult professor, but completely worth all the work. I decided to get involved in GEMS because being a female in a STEM major is already hard enough why not make connections with other girls to lighten the load. All of the girls need to stick together so we all can support each other so we all can succeed. I expect the GEMS program to be the starter of lifelong friendships and connections to help promote women in the STEM fields. I have to say college is nothing like high school it is much harder and the expectations are higher. For many freshmen it is a huge shock and can be discouraging, but that is why you have EXCEL and GEMS to help. College isn't all about the studies. I enjoy hanging out with my friends, going to the gym and go to the pool.
