Profile

My name is Daniella Badal and I am currently a senior studying Microbiology & Molecular Biology (M&M). I graduated from Atlantic Technical Center Magnet High School in Coconut Creek, FL and joined UCF in 2008. My favorite classes are Endocrinology and Immunology Lab because the material taught is practical. Endocrinology exposes you to clinical cases that I enjoy solving and diagnosing and the Immunology Lab has a really relaxed academic atmosphere. My favorite professors are Dr. Donovan Dixon from Chemistry and Dr. Raheleh Ahangari from Microbiology and Molecular Biology. Dr. Dixon taught my General Chemistry II class. I enjoyed the challenge of the course and Dr. Dixon's humor during the lectures. I've had Dr. Ahangari for Physiology and Endocrinology and her presentation of the material along with her genuine kindness makes it a pleasure going to her classes. I love that GEMS really encourages and supports women undertaking STEM majors. I became involved as a mentor when I realized how influential the program was in developing independent and confident future female role‐models. I expect GEMS to continue providing valuable resources and exposure to the community and industry to ensure the mentees and mentors success. In my spare time, I love watching international soccer, listening to music, and traveling. Words of Advice to the GEMS freshman students: UCF has a treasure‐chest full of opportunities; ensure you absorb all it has to offer and take time to enjoy being a Knight!
