Hi everyone! My name is Christina McKeaver, and I graduated from North Fort Myers High School in North Fort Myers, Fl. I’m a second year Biology major with a minor in Health Sciences, and although there isn’t a technical minor in ASL, I plan on taking the full 16 credits offered here at UCF! I also plan on going to dental school and becoming a pediatric dentist, as I have always had a passion for working with kids! 

So far, my favorite classes at UCF have been my Biology I and II courses with Dr. Dal Pos. He’s super funny and really easy to talk to, and his classes have been a breath of fresh air compared to the rest of my schedule. I always knew I wanted to major in biology because it is so fascinating to me, while allowing me to pursue a graduate degree in my intended career path.  

I decided to join GEMS because I know the first year of college can be really tough, especially with a loaded STEM schedule and the crazy things life can throw at you. GEMS gave me the support I needed when I was figuring out college life, and I want to be that person for my mentees. Whether you need advice about classes, staying organized (I’m the queen of making a good spreadsheet), making friends, or even things that go unnoticed, like grocery shopping on your own for the first time or staying physically active, I want you all to feel like you can come to me.  

Some words of wisdom for incoming GEMS freshmen: stick with it, trust why you picked your major and don’t let self doubt take over! I put the biggest emphasis on taking things day by day, asking for help when you need it, and surrounding yourself with supportive friends that push you to be the best version of yourself. Take advantage of all the awesome resources at UCF, and remember that you can do absolutely anything if you work hard! 

A little about me and what I like to do in my free time: I love listening to music, especially The Beatles and Fleetwood Mac, making pinterest boards, cooking, baking, and decorating cakes. I also love roller coasters! Even though we’re closer to Universal and Disney, my favorite amusement park is actually Busch Gardens. I think it’s super important to make time to do the things you love while pursuing your degree!
