My name is Carolina Solomon, and I am a Mathematics major on the Computational track. This will be my second year at UCF. In 2024, I graduated from Cypress Lake High School which is in Fort Myers, Florida. One of my favorite classes at UCF has been Concepts of Computer Science. It was an introductory coding class, and the professor was amazing! The lessons she taught encouraged me to pursue more coding along with my math major. One of my favorite professors at UCF is Sarah Angell for Concepts of CS. Even though I knew absolutely nothing about coding, her class made learning python feel easy and fun. I decided to get involved with GEMS because as an incoming Freshman I knew that women are the minority in STEM. I wanted to find some way to be in a group where I could find support from other women who study the same classes as I do. My suggestion to any incoming students is to take advantage of every opportunity! UCF is a huge school and there are so many opportunities for STEM majors here. You just have to put yourself out there and take advantage of them. Finally, outside of school I love hiking, going to the beach, reading, baking, cooking, and hanging out with my friends.
