Profile

My name is Cameron Hojecki, and I am a Biomedical Sciences major with a Medical Sociology minor. This will be my third year at UCF. I graduated from Montville Township High School in Montville, New Jersey in 2021. My favorite class at UCF that I’ve taken is Medical Sociology. I think the material is fascinating and Professor Vergara keeps the class exciting and relevant with constant stories and connections to real life and her own and others’ research. One of my favorite professors at UCF is Dr. Lapka, who I had for Honors Enjoyment of Music. She is very personable and always willing to help her students and listen to their concerns. I also loved how passionate she was about music; I was in lecture three times a week, but it was never boring because of that passion and how much effort she put into keeping her content up to date and engaging. I decided to get involved in GEMS because of the support the program offers and also what the program stands for. I love being a part of something that connects and uplifts women in STEM. My experiences with GEMS and EXCEL have always been very positive. I have made some great friends and it was always nice to see familiar faces in class and know I had people to study with. In my free time I enjoy reading, listening to music or podcasts, and hanging out with my friends. At home, which is now Marco Island, Florida, I love being so close to the beach and spend most of my time in the water. I am very excited to be a mentor for another year, so don’t hesitate to reach out!
