My name is Brooklyn White, and I’m a second year Industrial Engineering major at UCF. I’m from Tampa, Florida, where I graduated from River Ridge High School. My favorite classes are ones I take through the EXCEL Program because I know a lot of the people in the classes, and we have the opportunity to work together on any problems or questions we have. One professor who has made a big difference for me is Lori Dunlop–Pyle. She is one of my favorite professors because she explains the material clearly and is always willing to help with whatever questions I have. I joined GEMS because having a mentor is incredibly helpful, and it also gave me the chance to meet more people in my major. Now I’m excited to share my own experiences and support my mentees however I can. My biggest advice for new EXCEL/COMPASS students is not to be afraid to ask for help. I used to think office hours were intimidating, but they truly are helpful. Outside of school, I love spending time with friends, playing volleyball, and listening to music. I almost always have my AirPods in, and if I don’t, it probably means I misplaced them.
