Hi! My name is Amber Lett and I am a Computer Engineering major and Intelligent Robotic Systems minor. I’m currently in the process of declaring another minor in Engineering Leadership Studies. This will be my fourth year at UCF and my second year as a mentor for this program. I graduated from Fort Walton Beach High School which is in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. One of my favorite classes at UCF was my leadership development course through the LEAD Scholars Academy. The professor was super invested in the course and made sure we all were engaged while also having fun getting to meet our peers. I genuinely enjoyed the assignments in the class and we also had the opportunity to do community service which is important to me. I decided to join the GEMS program because I acknowledge that the STEM field is under represented by women and so this program was basically the perfect place for me to find myself within the STEM community. Having a group of women who are going through similar courses and situations as myself was comforting and this program was uplifting for me at times of struggle. My expectation for the program was to get to know women in my field of study and GEMS certainly gave me friends that I can now count on in the future. A piece of advice I’d like to share with you all is to never doubt your capabilities and understand that STEM courses are difficult and you won’t be the only one struggling with the material.  Don’t give up, just go to tutoring in the EXCEL center it is a great resource for study tips and tricks. Away from academics I am a member of Tri Delta a sorority here on campus and I enjoy participating in philanthropy events that give back to the community and other great organizations for a great cause. I can’t wait to meet you all, and I’m looking forward to a great school year! Go Knights, Charge On!
