Hi! My name is Alexis Pittman, and I am a sophomore majoring in Biomedical Sciences. I graduated in 2020 from Souderton Area High School in Pennsylvania. I grew up in South Florida, so it’s good to be back in my home state for college. Here at UCF, I found that I really enjoyed my American History class in the fall semester with Ms. Alicia Duffy. I met people in that class who are still close friends, and we have continued to visit Ms. Duffy during her office hours.  I decided to get involved with the GEMS/COMPASS program to be surrounded by a motivated and supportive group of fellow women in STEM. I expect my mentees to participate in our activities to build relationships within our group. I will be supporting my mentees by providing a safe and nonjudgmental space for us to ask questions and find solutions as they transition to life at UCF. In my free time I like to get involved in activism, art, and music. I read all sorts of books and I like to challenge myself to new adventures like bouldering.

My words of wisdom to future mentees (who I am very excited to meet!) are to be persistent, make friends, and set realistic academic goals.
