The EXCEL program aims to increase student success at the university level, specifically in your chosen STEM discipline. We do this by creating connections between STEM students, their faculty and staff in a learning community environment that supports discovery and engagement.
Science and Engineering subjects require that students have a strong mathematics foundation. EXCEL is intended for students pursuing calculus based STEM majors. The program is structured to help students strengthen their math skills, making it easy to master material in their upper division discipline specific courses.
Our team has been serving the First Time in College (FTIC) student population through the efforts of EXCEL since 2006. During this time, we have increased STEM first-year retention and graduation rates by more than 50% over other ‘like’ UCF students while doubling the size of the program. In 2022, with support from the university, EXCEL opened the program to a broader population including transfer students for the first time. We are excited to expand and have continued success with our students well into the future.
