Dr. Tristan Hubsch to Speak on Extra Space Dimensions for Our Universe

Dr. Tristan Hubsch, Professor of Physics at Howard University will present a public talk entitled Extra! Extra! Extra Dimensions: Room Enough for Many Worlds on Thursday, September 17 at 4:30 PM in ED 174A.

Summary of the talk:

Superstring theory, the first candidate "Theory of Everything," actually predicts space to have more than three dimensions. Besides the by now 90-year old idea of compacting the extra space into teensy clumps, the so-called Brane-World cosmologies (by now 10 years old) offer a truly exciting alternative: our World could be millimeters away from another, we may be able to signal (or even travel) faster than light... Curiously, some of these phenomena are foretold by the kind of complex geometry weve learned for compactification.

It is the first in a series of public talks planned by the Steve Goldman Lectures in Mathematical Physics at UCF.

The Steve Goldman Lectures in Mathematical Physics are public lectures and/or colloquia given by nationally and internationally known speakers.  Steve Goldman is a Florida philanthropist, founder and former CEO of Distributed Processing Technology, and a world-recognized expert in computer storage technology.

More information on the series can be found at
